4th: Evers' Bites Smaller |
 |
ESPN Outdoors |
Evers didn't change anything about the way he fished, but the ones that bit were smaller than on day 1.
"I did the same thing as yesterday and I caught a whole bunch of fish, but no big ones," he said.
He went through at least 15 keepers, but none were bigger than 3 pounds. Most of his action occurred from the middle of the day on.
"I did not catch them this morning. It took me until about noon to catch a limit, and then I caught about 10 more after that."
He'll take the same gameplan into the weekend that he's employed thus far and isn't too worried about the possibility of encountering weekend crowds.
"I'm going to keep doing the same stuff, without a doubt. I'll just go fishing and worry only about the things I can control. If I find an empty point, I'll fish it. If there's a boat there, I'll move on to the next one.
"I'm doing enough different stuff that I don't mind fishing behind people." Read More

Evers Has Two Key Bites Day 1 Murray |
|
After Clarks Hill, Edwin Evers knows how easy it is to go from hero to zero. He’s hero for the day, but explained that it could have been middle-of-the-pack ending to the first round just as easily. “I just had two big bites today that made all the difference for me, that’s all,” he explained. Edwin Finishes 3rd Clarks Hill |
|
The blueback-point strategy paid dividends for Edwin Evers as it did for most of the other Top 12 pros. Evers didn't find his points by burning water blindly, though. He spent time at Clarks Hill just before the Bassmaster Classic kicked off in February, and the extra effort paid off last week. Read More |

Final 12 at Clarks Hill is star-studded |
 |
ESPN Outdoors |
For the second straight day Oklahoma's Edwin Evers sits atop the Pride of Georgia leaderboard. He was helped, for the second straight day, by catching the Purolator Big Bass — a 5-pound, 14-ounce largemouth to go with Friday's 6-7. His three-day total of 51-1 puts him 19 ounces ahead of fellow Okie Kenyon Hill's 49-14 total.
(On the accomplishments list, Evers has won over $1 million on the BASS tour and the 2007 Elite Series title at Lake Erie, in addition to qualifying for the Bassmaster Classic eight times. Hill has two BASS tournament titles, three Classic appearances and was second in the Clarks Hill Elite Series event in 2006.)
"Basically, I'm running all over the place, trying to fish a pattern," Evers said. "I'm fishing flat points that have deep water next to them and pea gravel or rock. The wind is a big key.
"I'm just really covering a lot of water. You've got to stay a long way off and make long casts."
Evers said he caught the 5-14 largemouth in the first 15 minutes Saturday, and it came from a spot 50 yards away from where he caught the 6-7 Friday. Read More | Standings | Photos | Notes | Archive

Augusta, GA – With Saturday being cut day, and the bite showing signs of rebounding, the field of 50 shuffled jockeying for a Top 12 end to the day. Many at, or near, the top of the leader board Thursday and Friday seemed stuck in reverse, but Edwin Evers hadn’t had but one gear since Friday.
Evers once again stood at the top of the heap with a three-day weight of 51-1 after bringing 17-3 to the scales in the third quarter. Kenyon Hill ended the day where he started it in the second-place chair with a total weight of 49-14 after bagging 18-1 Saturday.
In third place on Cut Day was Davy Hite, thanks in large part to his third day weight of 18-14, with 46-15 overall. Finding himself in fourth place Saturday was Peter Thliveros, with 44-4 in three days of fishing, who brought 16-13 to the scales on day three. Read More

Evers Still Out Front, Hill Narrows Gap |
 |
ESPN Outdoors |
The wind blew, the clouds assembled and the mercury pushed just a little higher up the thermometer today at the Clarks Hill Bassmaster Elite Series event. All those factors seemed to work together to urge the lake's lethargic largemouths into a mood that made them slightly more catchable than they were 24 hours ago.
The 20-pound-sack that showed itself on day 1 is proving to be more of an anomaly with every 'teener' limit that crosses the scales, but all-in-all, it seems the Elite Series competitors have made it through the valley that was day 2 and are moving towards a promising crescendo for Sunday.
Edwin Evers proved his big bag on day 2 was no fluke when he brought in another stout limit that totaled up to 17-03 today. Evers still holds on to the top spot, but the 2-01 lead he brought into day 3 was slimmed down to a pound thanks to another big limit from Kenyon Hill. Read More

Kenyon Hill in Second, Brauer Falls to Third
Story by Brent Conway
Augusta, GA – This tournament is always about location, and this week is not any different. If you’re fortunate enough to find the herring – which again aren’t in their usual haunts – you’ll most likely find quality bass with them. If you’re not on a school of herring, you’re scrambling for scraps, and in looking at the Day One results, the “scraps” many in the field found weren’t enough to keep up with the pace require to make the Top 12.
The warming weather helped many in the field make a charge to be in contention for Saturday’s cut. Among them was Edwin Evers, who bettered himself by 11 spots by bringing 18-13 to the scales Friday giving him the lead with 33-14. Kenyon Hill climbed three places and ended Friday in second place with a combined weight of 31-13, thanks in part to his second day weight of 14-13. Read More
